The aim of ‘’The Black Hole’’ residency is to provide artists with possibility to try collaboration with others they never met before – most probably working in different disciplines or media. “The Black Hole” residency fosters creative freedom, with participants supported throughout the process by an experienced moderator.
Artists will also be able to explore the local context and engage with the outcomes of a research project on social cohesion carried out in the surrounding neighbourhood during 2024–2025. Over the course of three weeks, artists will get to know each other and the residency environment. Once a week, they will present their progress in a small group setting. At the conclusion of the residency, participants will publicly share the ideas developed during their stay—through an exhibition, presentation, performance, interdisciplinary event, or other chosen format.

The residency will take place 30 min bicykle ride distance from the city center. There is also a public transport, 90 min ride = 1,5 EUR. The price for the cab ride from and to the city center is around 5-10 EUR depending on rush hours.

Currently the Black Hole residency uses 10 of 200 former classrooms in non-formal cultural hub situated in the former university building since 2019. There are also around 50 local residents and 80 artist studios, offices for organizations, workshops for entrepreneurs of creative industries, etc. More – www.viskali.lv
