Send your CV to info@blackholes.lv by April 15th, 2025.

The first open call for this residency in 2024 was launched through the ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE 19th edition. From the received applications, we selected one artist who will receive the Special Arte Laguna Prize and participate in the residency free of charge. The winner is Andrea Papi from Italy – http://andreapapi.biz/

We can host a total of 6 artists, so we will select 5 more artists from the applications received by April 15th. On April 21st, we will hold a Zoom meeting with the invited applicants. We plan to apply for residency funding from the local culture foundation on April 26th. By the end of May, we will know whether we have received the funding. If we won't get supprt we will have to ask participants to cover the participation and accommodation costs in total 600 EUR each. Artists are responsible for their own travel expenses. Each participant will have a private bedroom. There will be a shared workspace, kitchen, and bathroom.

The aim of ‘’The Black Hole’’ residency is to provide artists with possibility to try collaboration with others they never met before – most probably working in different disciplines or media. “The Black Hole” residency fosters creative freedom, with participants supported throughout the process by an experienced moderator.

Artists will also be able to explore the local context and engage with the outcomes of a research project on social cohesion carried out in the surrounding neighbourhood during 2024–2025. Over the course of three weeks, artists will get to know each other and the residency environment. Once a week, they will present their progress in a small group setting. At the conclusion of the residency, participants will publicly share the ideas developed during their stay—through an exhibition, presentation, performance, interdisciplinary event, or other chosen format.
